My idea of fishing, especially with a 2wt rod, is "as long as it pulls when I pull it's fun". Several times this summer while fishing for bluegill I have been catching Golden shiners. On one recent trip I caught eleven shiners in one morning. Shiners seem to really like pheasant tail nymphs in size 14. This morning while fishing a hares ear nymph and a pheasant tail dropper I hooked a shiner on the hares ear. While bringing the shiner in the bass grabbed the pheasant tail fly. So I caught bait fish and game fish on one cast. Two other shiners were caught this morning casting parallel to shore near the bank. Four bluegill and five more bass including a 13 inch one completed the catch for the morning. A very successful trip I would say.
David Brooks is a fly fishing enthsiast. He really enjoys fishing tiny flies on his tiny 2 weight fly rod whether on the local pond, or chasing Spanish Mackeral in the surf at Anna Maria Island. He is also a talented fly tyer. Check out this photo of the two fish he caught on the same cast. And look closely at which fish is the bait and the bass. TAW
